Before & After: Synergy Landscape Design Transformations
Project: Lower Mission #1
The Inspiration: Deeply influenced by Mediterranean/ Italian structural and landscape styles, our clients wanted a sleek, resort-like home and an outdoor area that would complement it, making the space feel like a luxe resort. Drawing from their inspiration, strong lines, symmetry, and splashes of colour were the recurring themes in this Lower Mission home’s landscaping project.
The Challenge: We faced challenges in maintaining the property’s privacy from the main road without building a wall. Our team worked to install layered plantings of trees and shrubs along the home’s front perimeter to add a layer of privacy without building a solid structure.
The Outcome: Throughout the early design stages and construction of our client’s home, Synergy’s team collaborated with them, this gave us the flexibility to factor in changes resulting from new ideas or building challenges. An idea that arose was repurposing the wood from a chestnut tree that had to be taken down, from which we crafted a stunning outdoor patio table that’ll be used for years to come. Our team will continue to be a part of their garden’s growth as we maintain it at regular intervals, it’s this part of coming full circle that makes our role in someone’s home so fulfilling.
Project: Kettle Valley
The Inspiration: This client’s landscape in Kettle Valley had lots of potential, however, when it was purchased, it was characterized by overgrown plants, awkward spaces and a layout that didn’t fit their vision. They dreamed of having an outdoor space that would accentuate their beautiful views of the Okanagan, a stunning garden that was peaceful, with different spots for sitting, relaxing, and just enjoying nature throughout the day.
The Challenge: The first hurdle we had to cross was figuring out which plants and features were worth keeping. Next, the yard needed to be reworked due to unsafe pathways and an odd layout that made the area feel disconnected. We needed to map out a plan that maximized the space’s potential. Other issues that crept up involved poor drainage systems and redesigning an unusable space previously set up to accommodate a hot tub.
The Outcome: Our landscape experts at Synergy completely reimagined the yard, creating a series of inviting spaces that flow together naturally. The hot tub area got a much-needed upgrade, with an extended deck to make it a cozy retreat. We added steps and a patio to connect the pool deck to a covered seating area and outdoor kitchen—perfect for hosting friends and family. A new pathway now makes it easy to move through the space, and we tied everything together with the couple’s colourful pots, statues, and furniture to give the garden a personal touch.
Project: Kelowna #2
The Inspiration: This landscape design project in Kelowna featured a home that boasted magnificent Southwest views of the Okanagan Valley below, but the existing outdoor space didn't do it justice. The area was uninviting, hard to access from the main living spaces, and the intense afternoon sun made it uncomfortable. Our clients envisioned using their space as a vibrant extension of their home—perfect for hosting loved ones and soaking in the scenery.
The Challenge: A few things our landscape installation team had to tackle were creating easy access to the outdoor areas from the house and making the space enjoyable despite the strong sun exposure. We aimed to effectively design a beautiful outdoor space that flowed naturally, connecting indoor and outdoor living.
The Outcome: We started by removing the existing railing and adding steps to seamlessly connect the main living area to a spacious new patio. A koi pond with a stone bridge was installed, which created a serene focal point in their yard, while an outdoor kitchen and an extended patio made the space ideal for entertaining. To soften the heat, we refreshed the garden with vibrant, shade-providing plants.
